Twitter Summary
narrative: our story is happened in a hash restaurant called Hash Brown which aims to makes special hash to every person. It is a small family restaurant but very sweet with full of love. Every customer come to our restaurant bring their own story and then create new stories with having delicious hash. In the twitter, Hash restaurant introduces the new kind of food every day and teach audience how to cook them. We call for a vote for asking audience’s opinion about whether it’s safe to travel abroad by airline after the MH370 missing. We also arrange an activity in twitter which is “call for stories”. We encourage everyone to talk about their own story under this hashtag, in that case we get our characters stories.

Jenny Gaga: she is a crazy hash lover who comes to Hash restaurant to have delicious food every day. She is a lovely woman with full energy in her life. When she first came to Hash restaurant, she was sad and head broken, because she found her boyfriend fall in love with her best friend. She want to get tasty food to comfort herself. She get into the Hash restaurant and fall in love with the chief in Hash Brown called Charlie Brown. She thinks Hash can give her energy and hope to start her new life, and the one who can cook such delicious food can accompany her forever.


Charlie Brown: He is the best chief in the Hash restaurant who can cook great delicious food for each costumer. He is also the elder son of owner who is very shy but care others very much.  He falls in love with Jenny gaga at the first sight. He uses fantastic food to touch Jenny’s heart and finally get married. He tries to cook Chinese food dumpling the first time for Jenny and ask marriage to her. This is a love story happen in this twitter narrative.

Ivan Whitton: He is a travel enthusiast who has traveled to many countries and tried many different cuisines of the world. He is a customer of hash restaurant and then falls in love with a new cooker Laura who works in the restaurant.

Laura Fick Chwe: She was a painter before, but now, she is a cook in Hash Brown. When she was young, her mom always cooked hash for him. She really liked it because it always gave her the sense that her mom was be with her. By the way, her mom is a hash cook who works in a Chinese restaurant. She was interested in painting and really worked hard to learn how to draw. However, her mom asked her to be a hash cook. She ran away from home for nearly ten years. Her mom had a big sick during that ten years then she realized her mistake and came back. After she sharing this story in Hash Brown’s tweet, the boss asks her to work in his restaurant. During the experience working in Hash Brown, she meets Ivan and falls in love with him.

Conflict1In our narrative story, we use twitter bots to make mistake our hash products for drug to make the conflict between our restaurant and customers. Firstly, Hash restaurant said the hash is so delicious and on one can get rid of it. He loves it so much. Everyone will be addicted to it if they come to have a try. Then the twitter bot which is employed by our competitor restaurant makes a command that "Oh my god! People eat hash, the drug, in that restaurant. It is illegal! We cannot eat in that restaurant at all!" It will make a conflict because our competitor wants to slander our restaurant. People may talk about “Is our restaurant illegal? Should people stay away from our restaurant?” in that case, we, as the boss of the restaurant, face a big rumor and need to fight for our reputation and legalization.

Conflict2: Laura cooks hash for Ivan, but he does not like it. Actually, Laura uses her mom’s way to cook it and she believes it is the best hash, so she feels very mad about his dislike. Laura sends a tweet to vent anger. Out of her surprise, Ivan finally comforts her. Finally, they become good friends. Laura sends her painting to Ivan and Ivan shares photo with her.

  1. What surprised you about your narrative? How did you adapt?
    At the beginning, we just create a simple story: There are small restaurant that owned by a sweet family. However, we are required to use twitter bot, Vlog, love story and many different media to create a story. So we created more characters like crazy customers, traveler and an employee. With the time went by, those character we played became vivid. They are not fake characters because we gave them the soul. It really surprised me. When I edit the characters' tweets, I just say what I want to say. I became the characters and the characters are me. I adapted it gradually. I didn't know when or how I adapt it. It happened maturely. Today, when I wrote view the tweets I sent and wrote the summary, I was also surprised that we really created some great stories. At the beginning, our characters are individuals. They don't have many connection with each other. However,  they all find their true love in Hash Brown. I even hope they are all true stories happened around the world and there would be a sweet restaurant that brings happy to others.

  2. Identify the points you are most proud of.
    The most proud point must be the Vlog. We remake the MV of  Love Story of Taylor Swift's to show our characters Jenny Gaga and Charlie Brown's love story. In the original story, two main characters met in a beautiful and fall in love with each other. And they also dance in party. So we decided to take the video in our own campus. The first screen in our MV is very similar with the original one. However, the dancing part is very funny. I (as Jenny Gaga) and Hermione (as Charlie Brown) danced the gangnam style like PSY. By the way, main Taylor was singing on MV, so I also need to pretend I was singing. That's so funny. With this Vlog, we practiced out editing skills we learned last semester.

  3. What form of media was most useful?

    I think Hashtag could be the mot useful media. When we use hashtag, we are created a topic. And as the hashtags are highlighted, users could notice them quickly. The most hashtags we used are  #HalfPriceTheSecond I used it every uploading day. And the most successful hashtags we use are #callforstories our characters stories are all begin with here.

  4. What form of media did you enjoy the most?

    The media I enjoy the most is also using pictures. Pictures are also useful media. Pictures are visual. So using pictures can attract others' attention. And the number of words we can put on Twitter is limited, so explain with pictures can be more effective.I like to find fitted picture for our tweets. We are a restaurant so we need to find a lot of picture of food. As a foodie, I really enjoy the process! I will find pictures every day I upload the tweets.

  5. Least useful?

    Maybe it's blog. We don't need to use blog I think, because we can express our information by tweets and conversation. So we just read other people's blog and share.

  6. Least enjoyable?

    Twitter bot should be the least enjoyable media. It's hard to pretended to talk like a robot because we are not robot. And the story of robot seems not interesting, we even wanted give up that robot. The conflict of twitter bot might not be so strong and we should do it better.

  7. Identify the points you would change and what you would do differently.

    If we have enough time, I would like to do it more carefully and smoothly. Stories happened in Hash Brown seems too fast. The process of story is shorten because the story should keep going before deadline. If I can, I would like to add more details in our stories and make them more nature.

  8. Optional: is there anything else you would like me to know?

    Aha~ I think every members in our group did a good job though we may don't have too many followers. 

    There are two two twitter account with many many followers retweet our tweets. We are so excited about that because we are noticed by others~

    By the way, our restaurant's name is hash and it is because the first words of our name are H A S H!

Few centuries ago, There were 1/3 population of Europe died of outbreak of the plague. Smallpox killed half of the population in Mexico. Humans are an extremely aggressive species. There are countless wars between humans. However, according to historical and medical expert estimate that the people who died because of micro-organisms, parasites and infections were much more than people who died in wars. But World War II was a notable exception. The things changed the situation was the first antibiotic in human history- Penicillin. It was said that World War II brought to mankind things which have revolutionary impact are include the atomic bomb , penicillin and computers and so on, In fact, many medical history experts believe that penicillin was into the pharmacopoeia showing the birth of modern medicine, even before this, we already have a rabies vaccine. After extensive application of antibiotics, medicine for the first time really had the ability to save humanity from the largest battlefield.
1928 is a very important year in history of mankind against bacteria landmark. The famous British bacteriologist, Alexander Fleming discovered the penicillin by accident. 16 years later, his discovery made a big difference in World War II. Now, I will tell you the story of penicillin.
       It was Alexander Fleming at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School who noticed a mould growing on a culture plate of bacteria one day in September 1928. Around the Penicillium notatum mould was a clear area where the colonies of bacteria appeared to have been dissolved. Fleming set about establishing the identity of the substance that was killing the bacteria, giving it the name ‘penicillin’. But Fleming only continued to study penicillin for a year or so, and he never got to the stage of  purifying and testing its effects against bacterial infections when injected into a living animal or patient.
Professor Howard Florey became Professor of Pathology at Oxford in 1935, moving into a splendid new department, the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology. Florey quickly recruited Ernst Chain to work with him, and they began to look at a range of substances that might have an effect on bacteria.
Around the time Britain declared war on Germany, Chain and Florey came to the conclusion that penicillin was far more effective in combating bacteria than the other candidates. But there was no simple means of testing the activity of the samples of penicillin they produced. And they needed a good method to extract the penicillin from cultures of the Penicillium mould.
By 25 May 1940, the team had reached a point where they could carry out a new experiment that would test whether penicillin could be an important antibacterial drug. Eight mice were given lethal doses of streptococci. Four of the mice were then given injections of penicillin. By the next morning all the untreated mice were dead while those that had received penicillin survived for days to weeks.
With this result, Florey realized that he needed to expand production – an effective treatment for infection could be a valuable contribution to Britain’s war effort. By February 1941 Florey felt he had enough penicillin to begin trials in humans.
The Dunn School became a factory to produce enough penicillin for trials in humans. With the help of Charles Fletcher, a young doctor at the Radcliffe Infirmary, on 12 February 1941, Albert Alexander, a 43-year-old policeman, became the first patient to be treated with penicillin. He had scratched his face on a rose bush, the wound had become infected and the infection had spread. Fletcher injected him with penicillin regularly over four days, and within 24 hours he was greatly improved. But supplies of the new drug ran out before his cure was complete. He relapsed at the beginning of March, and died two weeks later.
Fleming, Florey and Chain were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine in 1945, recognizing the tremendous contribution of penicillin to human welfare.
In 1943, Ukraine microbial scientists Wasserman discovered streptomycin. It was the end of tuberculosis bacilli streak. 1950s to the 1970s was the golden age of antibiotics developed. The kinds of new antibiotics increased year by year. Chlortetracycline (1947), chloramphenicol (1948), oxytetracycline (1950), Nystatin (1950), erythromycin (1952), Kanamycin (1958), etc. are found in this period. Human had an overwhelming advantage in war with bacterium. However, when people are immersed in the joy of victory, the upcoming new disaster struck.
Cunning resistant bacteria occurred potency variability - large amount of antibiotics can kill the bacteria in one fell swoop. But small amount of stimulus or regular under the circumstances can induce resistance genes in antibiotic play a role in the inhibition. Once the bacteria produce antibodies, It will be passed on to their offspring to fight against their enemies. It also enhance their competitiveness in its class.
From 1950s to 1960s, people discovered the drug-resistant bacteria. In 1968 , scientists were in the development of vancomycin. They had declared "superbugs" will be repulsed.

 In 2000, listing of Pfizer's linezolid, has caused a sensation in the medical profession. Because it is the world's first synthetic Oxazolidinone antibiotics, People give it high hopes .
But only less than 1 year, the reports of emergence of linezolid -resistant enterococci forced people to have to find new antibiotics to replace its treatment.  Confident mankind should say goodbye to the era of far ahead of the bacteria. Antibiotics and bacteria are into the see-saw war and humans are always in dangerous.
In the "Red Queen", a book has a saying, "You need keep running to remain in place". After penicillin was used in large-scale investment in clinical applications, the arms race between humans and microbes has been going on for decades. How long can we maintain the advantage? I do not think people are willing to go back to the dark ages when average lifetime was of 40 years old or less. To maintain the advantage, we need to developing new antibiotics. In addition, we also need to strengthen supervision of antibiotics, medical systems industries rational use of antibiotics.
